I have missed writing

Like a daughter misses her mum

I said I have missed writing

Like a daughter needs her mum

So much depends

on

the writing

knowing where to go

knowing how to change

knowing what’s worth keeping

So much depends

on

the writing.

So much depended on this book.

Jack has inspired me

In fact

Jack has inspired most of us

This post is for Jack

So much has happened since Week 1.

But

the most exciting thing which has happened

is

this

book.

I have used it before … but this felt different.

Are you up for something different?

Want to

get your boys writing

oh

and your girls as well

inspire them all with this book

read it ALOUD

read it poetically

EXAGGERATE if you care to

be DRAMATIC if you dare to

and read it the way it is written (the way Jack wants)

discuss the poetry techniques

let them SEE the poetry techniques

get them DOING the poetry techniques

and

while they are learning about poetry techniques

we all follow the story of

JACK (and the tragedy of Sky)

who thinks poetry is for girls (and so do most of my boys)

who thinks he can’t write poems (and so do most of my boys)

BUT THAT IS AT THE START …

then as his journey unfolds

WE LISTEN

as Jack’s poetry gets better, better, better

he starts to like his own words

Jack buzzes with inspiration thanks to Mr Walter Dean Myers

I WATCH

as the intrigue is painted on the faces in front of me (it’s working)

I READ

confusion turning to clarity (they get it)

So much depends on

their poetic narratives

their own story

of

their own journey

into the world of poetry.

LOVE THAT BOOK

LOVE MY KIDS’ PERSONAL POETIC NARRATIVES SOME OF WHICH I HAVE SHARED HERE

There is also this

Our book of poems inspired by Jack

LOVE THESE POEMS

And finally

One of my girl’s reflection on this book

So much was revealed from this book.
